Feeling Stressed
April Is Stress Awareness Month

Stress Awareness month has been held every April since 1992. This year is no different either, so The Norfolk Clinic has decided to show its support and raise awareness of Stress Awareness Month 2017 through our blog.

During the annual 30 day period people working in the care and medical industry, promote the event to raise public awareness about the effects of stress and how do deal with stress effectively. Here at The Norfolk Clinic, we understand that everyone feels stressed from time to time. However, when left untreated stress can be a real fun killer.

Whilst everyone would love to be stress free, it’s a part of life that we all accept. Stress that’s continuous or left untreated can lead to a number of major health problem ranging anywhere from anxiety to life threatening conditions such as heart attacks. Since April is Stress Awareness Month we thought we’d come up with some effective ways you can relive stress.

Ways to Relieve Stress

Massages are a great way to relieve stress, they can help both your body and mind unwind. Recent studies have shown that massage is one of the most effective ways to promote muscle relaxation, helping to improve both your mood and sleep pattern. With a massage you can unwind and even talk to the person massaging you, meaning you can relieve some of the stress you’ve been feeling.

Open Up

One of the most effective ways to relieve stress is to simply open up and talk. By talking, laughing, crying and expressing yourself you can relieve stress. Who you talk to is all down to you, this could be anyone from friend to family or even a professional counsellor. Having clear feelings and thought means your mind isn’t weighed down and you’re less likely to feel stressed in your day to day life.

Undertaking regular exercise is one of the best ways to manage stress. One of the easiest ways to get started with exercise is walking. Even everyday activities such as cleaning the house or gardening can reduce the amount of stress you’re feeling. Regular exercise and stretching can also relieve muscle tension. GPs, physiotherapists and even counsellors can recommend the best types of exercise and meditation to carry out to help you relieve stress.

Aromatherapy is a proven way to relieve stress. There are a number of different essential oils that can relieve stress such as Bergamot, Basil, Clary, Sage, Frankincense, Lavender and Ylang Ylang. By breathing in the oils, it can relax the mind and muscles, helping to alleviate the stress you might be feeling. In addition to stress relief it can also help with other things such as anxiety.
