What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

The terms counselling and psychotherapy cover a range of talking therapies. In general counselors and psychotherapists help clients to talk about their thoughts and feelings and through the process of the therapy make positive changes in their lives.

Therapy may involve talking about life events such as bereavement, relationships, loss, anxiety, depression, health, sexuality, abuse and many other issues. The process of therapy usually involves hourly meetings in a private room for 4-6 weeks and can also continue for longer if the client requires more time. There are different ways of working with clients in counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists usually train and practice in one way of working.
